On March 5, 2020 My car was taken from in front of my home. My car had been paid off so I wondered if the car was stolen in broad daylight or what could have happened. I called the Burnham Police and they told me that the car had been reposessed. After making some calls to the previous finance company I was told that they had nothing to do with it. By that time it was late in the evening and everything had closed. The next morning the Burnham Police gave me the phone number and address of the towing company that had towed my car and I was advised to call the Lansing Police and report it. I was able to find out that someone had made notation of my vin# and had taken out a title loan on their vehicle using my vin# because their car was the same make as mine. I learned that Midwest Title Loans was the company that had approved the loan thru American Lending Company. I also learned that an employee of Midwest Title Loans had approved the loan using my info and that the employee of Midwest lived right around the corner from me. Upon learning that I checked the address and found out that the car that had taken out the loan was like mine but a different color. I do have the names of the employees at Midwest and American Lending that were involved. I was without a vehicle for three days while they held my car under investigation while I had submitted my proof of ownership. I also had my title in my possession while all of this took place. Someone knew that they were committing a fraud and they still did it. I was out of work for 3 days. I was also told that the suspect had taken a phony title to the Aurora DMV and that was how the were able to get the loan.
