Netflix very limited options

I have had Netflix Canadian online service since it started a couple of months ago. Since that time, I have done many searches for movies I wanted to watch none of which are recent and none of which are obscure. Of the many searches I have tried, Netflix.ca has had none of the movies except one (Taxi Driver). If you are considering signing up for this service, the fee sounds very appealing but just be aware you are actually paying for Noflix.ca

Netflix old movie selection

I'm a new Canadian customer > I like your set-up. But I don't like the choices you offer for Canadian customers. Dam, get some New Release movies on Netflix in Canada or I'm quiting... I was told movies that have been out of the theater's will be shown about 3 months later. Most of the movies I see through my Wii are from 2006 or prior.

Get with it Netflix or I'm canceling Next Month. Again, I was told prior to joining, that Netflix shows new released movies after out of the theater.

Netflix ignores its hearing impaired client base

Netflix advertises its on demand content streaming feature as an integral portion of your monthly service fee, yet nearly none of that streamed content has closed captions or subtitles for the hearing impaired.

Being that I am in a hearing impaired household, having closed captions or subtitles is a necessity.

Now Netflix is raising the price of my account from $16.99 per month to $19.99. In the same price increase notification email, they offer an alternative to the price hike. For $7.99 per month, you can have unlimited streaming of Netflix content without DVDs.

Well, this new cost-saving $7.99 plan is not useful to members who are deaf or hard of hearing because most of the content being streamed doesn't include captions or subtitles.

It truly staggers the imagination that in this day and age people who think themselves "haves" of the world still begrudge little morsels available to those they deem "have-nots!" It is not a sense of "entitlement, " as "TheLoveFistII" says! It is equal access under the law! Public accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act have been made for many years. Deaf people have dealt with enough injustices and ignorance. They took the moral "high road" when trying to reason with Netflix, but Netflix has dragged its feet for years, scarcely captioning 6% of its streamed library.

Surprise, surprise, your television comes equipped with a decoder chip to show those captions and has done so since January, 1993. Before this time, Deaf and hard-of-hearing people had to pay $200 MORE PER TELEVISION to watch programming with captions (that's what the decoder box cost from the Sears catalog until the Government stepped in).

Yes, movie theaters are also required and DO provide captioned showings. Check your local listings for times and locations.

LoveFist, think about this: suppose I were to tell you that the 2nd story restaurant you wanted to try (because you were wheelchair bound) was inaccessible? What would you do? The law provides for elevators and ramps--just as it does for captions. I think that just because hearing is taken somewhat for granted and is a hidden "disability, " hearing people tend to get frustrated with the Deaf and are less tolerant of their need for accommodations. I, for one, have had my fill of the lack of compassion.

List of 310+ Netflix titles with English Subtitles: http://ncmacasl.blogspot.com/2010/10/netflix-instantwatch-titles-with.html
I agree with the comment, however they *are* working on it -- just not very quickly. Since april 15th only 288 titles they have added captions to (not including the 22 foreign titles on my list, above) this averages out to only 1.25 titles each day! Why so slow?!?!?

Two things: Regulation and improper term

DOJ Regulation:

The DOJ rule prohibits the assessment of a charge or "surcharge" for compliance with this section, 28 C.F.R. Section 36.301(c),

It states: (c) Charges. A public accommodation may not impose a surcharge on a particular in...dividual with a disability or any group of individuals with disabilities to cover the costs of measures, such as the provision of auxiliary aids, barrier removal, alternatives to barrier removal, and reasonable modifications in policies, practices, or procedures, that are required to provide that individual or group with the nondiscriminatory treatment required by the Act or this part.

Read more: http://cfr.vlex.com/vid/36-301-eligibility-criteria-19675412#ixzz16GrozigXSee More

Improper Term: Hearing Impaired

Please be advised that the term, “hearing impaired” is unacceptable. Here is the explanation:

The term "Hearing Impaired" is a technically accurate term much preferred by hearing people, largely because they view it as politically correct. In the mainstream society, to boldly state one's disability (e.g., deaf, blind, etc.) is somewhat rude and impolite. To their way of thinking, it is far better to soften the harsh reality by using the word "impaired" along with "visual", "hearing", and so on. "hearing-impaired" is a well-meaning word that is much-resented by deaf and hard of hearing people.

While it's true that their hearing is not perfect, that doesn't make them impaired as people. Most would prefer to be called Deaf, Hard of Hearing or deaf when the need arises to refer to their hearing status, but not as a primary way to identify them as people (where their hearing status is not significant).

Hope that you and your people respect by refusing to use the outdated and offensive term.

Netflix false advertising

Nexflix, induces consumers, including me, to subscribe by promising to deliver selected movies & television shows that may be watched instantly. What they don’t tell you is that those same movies or TV shows that you signed on to see may become unavailable at any time and without notice. I don’t know about you but I would have liked to know that going in and now feel that something very important was withheld, that I have been a victim of false advertising. Customer support was aware of the problem and unable to offer anything other than their heartfelt sympathies.

Netflix unauthorized charges

I just found 2 unauthorized charges to netflix on my credit card and my account is inactive at this time. I am disputing them with my credit card company and will not pay them but they said I should go to the merchant first. I cannot get thru to the customer service there without reopening my account which I do not want to do at this time! The charges were made on 11/01/10 for $10.99 and $8.78. I did not make them but obviously someone did even though my account is in active. I need an answer to this right away but I can't seem to get one!

Netflix creative bookkeeping

My generous brother gave me a one year subscription to Netflix at Christmas last year (for the second time). In early February, I tried to activate the gift account, but didn't know how. So, I called them and the young man told me what I needed to do - find the gift card and use the code on that card. OK ! I found the card and went through the process of re-activating the account. In the meantime, Netflix started to bill my credit card monthly (for 3 months) before the re-activation started - 3 months later. I went through my credit card company and tried to get it rectified - to no avail. I have never sent for one of their movies and I never will. I also informed my brother to stop giving me gift subscripeions to NETFLIX. What a shoddy way to treat a customer - AND, they really don't speak fluent English. Fooey - a genuine ripoff (creative bookkeeping.) Will

Sounds a whole lot more like you didn't know what you were doing and wound up paying instead of getting it free because you just pointed/clicked/entered credit card info/continued without questioning if it was the right steps to take. It's not their fault.

Netflix unauthorized billing

There is an unauthorized appearing on my debit card for $9.89, placed on 9/28/2010.

I am a former netflix customer, and was attempting to try out your offer of 1 month's free trial. When I learned that I was not eligible for the free trial, (Because I was a former member), I gave up the whole thing.

I never, at any time, agreed to rejoin netflix, and pay $9.89 to do so. Reimburse me $9.89.

Please take me off your list of contacts.
Sincerely,
Claire a. Hattendorf

We recently signed on with dish network. On our first billing is something called netflix. We did not order it and do not know what it is. I want this ended from our account which appears as an automatic withdrawal from our U.S. Bank statement. The Netflix ref. number is [protected] US2. I called Dish network and they told us they did not put it on there. The amount is only $9.64 but I did not order it. Would you please assure me you will take care of this? Netflix streaming movies

incompetent selection of low budget films that hold no interest to me or any individual who is looking for entertainment. 99% of the selections of streaming films are a waist of time and human life. I do not know any individual or critic who would find any of these films remotely tolerable. This company has fraudulently been making money off of films that can be viewed on google or youtube, films that have no place in society due to the horrific standards.
(Even though opinionated almost all these movies SUCK!)

Actually, the guy's right and the rest of you must work for Netflix! You can't download half of the the made-for-TV movies or documentaries that Netflix has. Not only that, but in the evenings only - in other words, at peak service times - it spends as much time "Retrieving" as it does playing. It has taken me over 90 min to watch a 53 min program tonight. I have a DSL connection and can download them to my PC fine, but don't waste your time with the direct to TV downloads.

If you don't like the selection Netflix streaming offers, then you're just looking for VERY current films. Its not like they offer only foreign or unknown movies, they have PLENTY of incredible films, documentaries, TV Shows, etc The streaming selection is INCREDIBLE and they have plenty that stream at HD quality.

My wife and I just watched Princess Bride and Wall-E off my iPad connected to a hotel room TV. At home, I'm catching up on past seasons fof My Name is Earl and Mythbusters on my home theater projector thru my Xbox360 and it's INCREDIBLE.

Don't listen to this idiot. You can't find these films on YouTube or Google. He's full of it completely full of it.

For their VERY low, very reasonable price, stream all you want from MULTIPLE devices. What's not to love about that?

For a very low price of $9/mo you can stream ALL YOU WANT from anywhere. My iPad, Xbox and PC all work perfectly with Netflix.

Netflix I am done with dealing with this sorry company

I set up account with netflix to find that it looped back to start membership start up page. It took my money but looped back to start membership. A glitch on their online site. So I waited over the weekend once money posted back to my account & tried it again. Same thing..I called to get same response too. We will post money back to your account & you can try again, we are aware of this glitch & working on it. My question was...since it shows ya'll have my money cant you go ahead & start my account.the answer was no. That would of been the most logical way to go since the glitch is on their end..not mine.

I am done with dealing with this sorry company.

Netflix they are getting worse and worse

Been with netflix for two years, good service up to about the last 8 mos. since blu-ray you have to wait up to 2 weeks or more before you get a new release, talked to customer service many times same story we are working on it, new netflix ad brags about increasing its membership by over 20% but they cannot take care of its current members, (1 day shipping)well guess what...it seems to be getting worse. and if you ask them for a price adjustment, sorry we cannot do that, it seems if they started giving back money maybe the problem would be solved.

After four years I'm about ready to call it "quits" with Netflix myself. I don't have fast/reliable enough internet for streaming where I live and their DVD selection is getting poorer and poorer everyday. I've litterally watched dozens of movies removed from my queue as suddenly "unavailable." For four years my family and I have kept over a hundred movies consistantly waiting in the queue for shipment. I'm lucky if we can scrounge up 20 or so and pray half of those don't mysteriously dissappear. I can accept rate increases as expenses increase but I will NOT accept decreasing value with increasing prices...not in this economy. Back to the Red Box or movie store for me!

Netflix they are threatening to make me cancel my service

Netflix is demanding that I agree to terms of service which I have already done when signing up originally. They have obviously changed something in their agreement but I don’t know what it is. I spoke with their customer service department and they couldn’t tell me what had changed. I was instructed to re-read the multi, multi, multi page agreement when the customer service representative realized that the changes were not highlighted or otherwise identified. Now when I log on to the site they are threatening to make me cancel my service if I don’t agree – how sleazy.

You had better come up with a logical answer, you have a pretty good reputation, maybe you would like to have some changes done to that.!

This is crazy, gove me my address if I've ordered movies, and what are the ones I ordered?

Netflix fraud/lying about &long wait& & &very long wait&

I have a 3-at-a-time membership with Netflix, but I also work at a correctional facility where we pay for the 8-at-a-time membership so the inmates can see movies on the weekends. I have not been able to get new releases from Netflix because they claim "very long wait" next to the movie I have added to my queue; however, the same movie I have added to my work Netflix account shows available "now".

So, now I know what there tactics are...if you pay for the highest membership, the new releases are reserved and ready. This is extremely deceitful and I am sure an attorney would love to have another small claims suit against them if they knew this was happening. I feel like I am paying for a bogus membership! I have printed both queues as well as their FAQ claim that they only ship what is "available" and that if there is a wait, it is due to their lack of inventory. Whatever!

Anyone know who to contact at Netflix about this? I'm so tired of getting movies that garble half way through. Netflix needs to clean the DVDs before sending them out. Seems that this should be a basic part of the service, delivering a DVD that plays all the way through. I keep reporting this as damaged discs and never get a response or acknowledgement. Seems that Netflix isn't too concerned with delivering a quality experience.
