I am submitting this complaint regarding Maui Resort Rentals and their refusal to provide any accommodation or relief under circumstances related to a Kona Low even in their state that made getting to the island impossible and beyond my control.
My family’s inability to travel was the direct result of an Act of God — widespread disruptions including a state of emergency, airport shutdowns, washed-out roads, power outages at the resort itself, and guests being moved into shelters. Despite these conditions, I made every reasonable effort to proceed with our trip.
I fully understand and respect the purpose of travel insurance; however, this isn't a situation in which I wanted to or tried to back out of my reservation. This was not a matter of choice — it was a matter of impossibility.
Maui Resort Rentals’ refusal to offer any flexibility, credit, or rebooking option under these extreme circumstances reflects a complete lack of the “Hawaii way” — the spirit of understanding, compassion, and fairness that visitors expect. Instead, they have chosen to retain full payment for services never rendered, resulting in clear unjust enrichment.
At a minimum, a reasonable accommodation such as a future stay credit should have been offered. Their failure to do so is both disappointing and unjust.
I respectfully request a review of this matter and appropriate action.
