Arlo Secure review: Surprise monthy fees

In December 2025, my Arlo security camera system that I had for several years stopped working. I called the Arlo support number and got a representative that told that my cameras and base station were not compatible with the new version of the software that got updated on my iphone. The rep stated touting the new system and offered me a big discount if I purchased the new base station and cameras from her that day. I thought about it and as the system had been providing all the functions I needed, I went ahead and purchased a package of base station and five cameras. Installation was troublesome and had to have tech support assist. I didn’t select any “plan” as my old system was fine.

After 30 days, I lost almost all functionality and my wife lost access to the system. I called Tech Support about the issue and was told that I had to buy a “monthly plan” to get the functionality back that I had originally. There was never a word about the plan requirement when I first called and spoke with tech support. I believe I was intentionally misled to buy something that now required a monthly fee for what use to be free. I contacted Tech support about a return and refund but I was told that I was past the 30-day window for a refund. Very unhappy with Arlo.
