On my first visit to the Italian consulate in Los Angeles early in February, 2023, I was told by a gentleman that I didn't follow precisely the application instructions. The next three weeks I read carefully all the required guidelines, printed all the required documents, and returned to consulate early in March. The same gentleman who rejected my first application collected the material, including my passport, and said he would get in touch. A month and a half later I still have to hear from him. I emailed twice asking for updates, stressing the fact that there was some urgency in the matter. That they are holding my passport and preventing me from traveling abroad is clearly of no concern to them. I am being treated as a worthless supplicant, which I find quite dehumanizing. I am wondering if the Italian government is aware of the disrespectful manner in which its consulate personal treat individuals interested in visiting their country. I would like to make a complaint with a government agency with authority over the consulate. Any suggestion as to such an agency will be welcome. Victor Atyas, Ph.D.

Desired outcome: An immediate response to the status of my long residency visa application and, if the response is negative, to provide a detained explanation as to the reasons for the rejection,
